my computer...after 8 days of being fixed just through another hissy fit. it wouldn't shut down...then when i turned it back on it got stuck on the openning screen again- just like the problem i had before i got it fixed..
omg i thought i had died again...but for some reason it turned back on after a few tries..
i tell ya...if i don't die of old age i will die of PC anxiety and stress.
hmm...
any of you who use MACs? Are they really more reliable than PCs? Should one just invest in a MAC instead of throwing hundreds of dollars into fixing PCs?

the last offer's still up if you ever do need it, i seem to be recovering for now so it's all good...
Concerning the mac, you'll find that a majority of professional graphics designers actually use a mac instead of the PC as it has a more comfortable workflow, not because it's necessairly more stable. The stability of an operating system stability in the end basically boils down to the user, whether it be mac, windows, linux etc. Though some have a better reputatoin for robustness compared to others. you basically need to ask if it's worth your while porting over to a different OS, don't forget you'll have to learn the details from scratch virtually. Although both have GUIs, the way the mac works is slightly different to the PC. Who knows - maybe you'll like it better.
Anyway, back to your pc, what exactly did the guy do? Perhaps try checking your graphics card and RAM (manual check take it out of the motherboard), since it's fizzing on startup. The ram's normally the first to fry, and the graphics card's also called during startup. If you do get stuck, let me know - it's hard to debug like this remotely.
Hey...what you said is right. It does depend on the user and I gotta learn to be a better user. I do like the MAC (used it for 3 years at uni) but it is quite expensive to change everything over to MAC so I will stick with PC for now.
Yeah...when I took it to the computer shop the person also changed my RAM cos she said it was unstable...so the RAM is a new one. Motherboard is new. But the graphics card is from 2003 so maybe i should look at that first if the problem arises again.
Hey can i get your number in case i need to consult you in the future? hehe. maybe note me so no one else sees it.
I'll do what I can. Chances are if I don't have the answer I should know someone who does.
I'm thinking it may be a connection problem, or the comp just deciding it didn't want to work during that round - which happens from time to time, these damn things have minds of their own, I tell you...
My advice, never buy a factory-made computers from the stores. you don't know exactly the types/versions/ of hardwares that mostly are pre-installed in them. The best way to have your own good and reliable computer is to build it yourself (by hiring a computer tech that you know does this kind of stuff) Tell him what you want to have in your system and ask him to write down all the parts that he's going to buy for it. He'll then build it, customize it based of your preferences. Always have Firewall on, and a virus scanner active with auto updates on as well. Don't use any download softwares such as 'LimeWire' or Kazza.. those things will do nasty things through the back door sort of thing, you'd never know. Because it leaves your system open for attacks anytime.
I've had my PC for over 4 years, and all the changes I've made was adding RAM and harddisk. It's always been stable. If it gets to act funny, I'd defragment my drives and uninstalled unused programs properly without deleting anything 'manually' .. I always uninstall everything using the Windows add/remove programs option.
Good luck! If you want some info on what to get, let me know.. I can send you a list of stuff that you can try to get in order to build a new kick-ass computer and that will last you years!

Yeah you do need to have a PC with top hardware. I think mine was built with cheapo stuff so I've had to change the Motherboard 3 times in 3 years.
And I learned from experience that those downloading softwares are a big no-no. But I will definitely remove programs the proper way in the future.
Can you please send me some info on how to build a kick-ass computer?! lol just in case...
