Books that get you down

PRINTS | STOCK | REBEL HEART | MISS M BRUSHES

:cries:

Just finished reading a fantasy novel. Man it's depressing..and in an unsualy way. Even though the story ended happily (that is: girl gets to marry her true love..blah blah) it was still so sad.

Stupid author made her charaters go through so much suffering that I feel the ending didn't really make up for the pain the character had endured.

anyways....so what novel made you cry and got you down?

 hehehe. um, how about the one where this girl was hit by a drunk driver and she was rendered completely paralyzed and she was horribly mistreated by nurses, but then she was taken home and hooked up to a super computer and made lots of art with her mouth and - oh wait - THAT"S ME! DUH! :giggle:

The House of Sand and Fog.... I'm nearing the end, but it's just so sad. Gripping though. I can't wait to find out how it ends.

Well, I hate dystopias, generally speaking...I find those rather depressing whether or not they have a marginally happy ending. Almost any kind of futuristic fiction, actually, that puts the world several years in the future and makes it horrible.

And any book in which a/the main character dies. Firewing and Messenger come to mind. Irritating.

Any books that involve cities, towns, or the world being destroyed, especially from nuclear weapons. It scares me so much that I feel nauseated and creeped out all day, which is weird, because books rarely affect me like that. This year in school I'm studying 20th century world history, though, so I have to read a lot of exestentialist-type books to understand the worldview of a lot of people of that era. >_<

Okay, maybe I shouldn't be recommending War of the Worlds then. Although it really is a good movie (even if everyone says the ending is sappy).

I just read Mystic River by Dennis Lehane, and that was so depressing. If you've seen the movie, the book is even better. Way more emotional. The subject of pedophiles just really gets to me. :hmm:
